چکیده
This extended research abstract describes an argumentation-based approach to modelling articulated decision making contexts. The approach encompasses a variety of argument and attack schemes aimed at representing basic knowledge and reasoning patterns for decision support.

Argumentation for Decision Support
In this paper we describe an application based on a general approach towards modelling practical reasoning through defeasible argumentation. The purpose of the paper is to show how the incorporation of an argumentation component can add value to a collection of existing information agents. The example application is a system for reasoning about the medical treatment of a patient. An agent, call...
متن کاملValue-Based Argumentation for Democratic Decision Support
In this paper we discuss the integration of two systems that are based on a specific theory of argumentation: the first, an existing web-based discussion forum; the second, a method to enable autonomous software agents to perform practical reasoning based upon their subscription to social values. We show how the output from the first of these systems can be used as input to the second and how t...
متن کاملThe hedgehog and the fox. An argumentation-based decision support system*
We present here a Decision Support System (DSS) with the help of a use-case for selecting a business location. This computer system is built upon a concrete argumentation framework for practical reasoning. A logic language is used as a concrete data structure for holding the statements like knowledge, goals, and actions. Different priorities are attached to these items corresponding to the like...
متن کاملA survey of argumentation structures for intelligent decision support
In practical reasoning, knowledge is often used to argue, in various ways, for or against an assertion. This perspective on knowledge has led a number of researchers to apply insights from argumentation theories to modelling reasoning. However, argumentation theories have been applied to the development of intelligent systems based in a variety of ways. For example, the most commonly used struc...
متن کاملArgumentation and decision making ?
This paper summarises our position on the use of symbolic methods for reasoning under uncertainty, and argumentation in particular. Our view is that argumentation ooers a complement to numerical methods for reasoning about belief, and a general framework within which many competing approaches can be understood. In applications we have found that argumentation ooers a variety of beneets for prac...
